We just got back from a routine checkup and this is probably the best report yet. The doctor said that we're definitely not "out of the woods" but that making it this far we've already beaten the odds. Both babies remain healthy with good heart rate and activity levels. Fluid levels remain ok for B and perfect for A. We found out that Laura doesn't have to be on bed rest, after all, but will still need to live in the hospital all summer to have immediate access to life saving intervention for the babies. Unfortunately, Baby B is still much too small for intervention, needing to approximately double in size first. The best outcome is obviously for both babies to get much larger over the next three months and skip the need for life saving intervention by being able to breath on their own. To help with that, Laura's going to be given steroids to speed their growth. I asked if they could deliver a squat rack to Laura's hospital room as long as she's on steroids anyway, but they would prefer her to continue lighter exercises. Missed opportunity aside, we're very encouraged by both the progress and health of the babies and by the news that Laura will almost certainly be able to stand and walk around with her IV cart and even step outside on hospital grounds for visits with our girls. God has blessed us a lot so far. Please pray for His continued mercy in sustaining the lives of these little boys, and especially causing accelerated growth for baby B. It would be lovely if God would also heal the tear in the amniotic sack of Baby B, but until then we have gotten used to trusting his providence even in the face of continued high risks.
