We are now at 22 weeks and got our latest ultrasound. Some very concerning news in this one. While both babies still have good movement, organ function, and heartbeats, baby A grew over 150 grams while baby B only grew 68 grams. They measured the placenta and found that baby B isn't getting good nutrition due to the placenta not operating correctly. We will need another appointment next week to see if the placenta is deteriorating or maintaining a lower but still functional level. If everything is at a steady state, we will deliver via C section at 34 weeks at the latest. If things are deteriorating, baby B would eventually become medically "distressed" and need to be delivered early, even as early as 23 weeks (next week). This could put Laura and I in the difficult position of having to choose whether or not to significantly reduce baby A's chance of survival to slightly boost baby B's near zero chance. We won't go to the hospital until we're ready to make that call. Currently the odds of B's survival are so low outside that we wouldn't risk A's life even if B was distressed (which B currently isn't). We've decided to tentatively schedule hospitalization for 24 weeks, but we'll wait till next week's appointment to decide for sure. It's really emotionally painful and exhausting to have to make decisions like these so please pray for God's sustaining mercy on us as well as our babies. Also please pray that the placenta is healed or at least holds out until 34 weeks. The longer they stay in there, the higher the odds of survival and the easier the decision to deliver early.
