The Glass Is Half Full

We are now well into our third week since the boys were born. Everything that was going wrong before continues now, but somehow the boys seem to be doing better anyway. Cyrus has gained some weight and a lot of strength, and enjoys struggling against the nurses whenever they tend to him. He’s succeeded at ripping off his own chin strap too, which caused him to quickly loose his oxygen until they got it back on. We’re choosing to celebrate the physical accomplishment and will focus on making good choices later! Arthur has gained only a little weight but seems far more alert than his much bigger brother, looking around at his caretakers while enjoying his snack, a long Q tip soaked in breast milk. He happily chews to get more flavor, and then opens his mouth for more when it’s taken away. Laura and I continue to feel worn down even as we’re getting used to this routine. We have far less anxiety than earlier when we were waiting for them to reach viability, but there’s a lot more to do now, and we always feel like we should be doing more. We’re hanging in there with the knowledge that the same God who saved our boys also cares about us. I’ll wrap this up with the week’s highlight, Laura and I are now allowed to hold Arthur, so we’ve enjoyed multiple sessions where each of us got to hold one of our boys.
